Bharathidasan University established in February 1982, was named after the great revolutionary Tamil Poet, Bharathidasan (1891-1968). The motto of the University is, "We will create a brave new world". The University endeavors to be true to such a vision by creating a brave new world of academic innovation for social change. The year 2012-2013 is the Silver Jubilee year for this great and vibrant University and Re-accredited with 'A' Grade by NAAC. The campus is located in a sprawling area of over 1000 acres of land on the Tiruchirappalli - Pudukkottai Highway. Computer Science Department along with Department of Economics, Social Work, Statistics, Centre for Remote Sensing, Academic Staff College, IECD is located in Khajamalai Campus.
KSHAKTRIYA - is an exclusive event of BDU, conducted annually by School of Computer Science, Engineering and Applications. This year is the 11th Anniversary of this great event. Various events are conducted to sharp the technical brains of the warriors. The all rounder is honored with an overall trophy had been Won by various Unversities and Colleges such as, NIT Trichy, PRIST University Thanjavur, Madurai Kamaraj University Madurai, Alagappa Chettiar College of Engineering and Technology Karaikudi, Thiagarajar College of Engineering and Technology Madurai, PSNA College of Engineering, Dindugal, Mookambigai College of Engineering, Pudukkottai, Jamal Mohamed college and Thiagarajar College, Madurai won overall trophy previous year.
The School of Computer Science, Engineering and Applications has officially launched its first programme in July, 2005. Dr.Gopinath Ganapathy, MCA, Ph.D has taken charge as the Head of the Department in November 2005. The infrastructures has grown phenomenally within a very short span of 8 years with the blessings of the Vice-Chancellor and the Registrar. The growth is not possible without the faculties towards enhancing this depatrment into one of the countries best.
The Bharathidasan information society is conceptualized and managed by the students of the Department of Computer Science. The society acts like a quality circle that works to enhance technical skills, manage technological events, conduct software contests, and organize lectures for the students.
